Moynihan Book Group is seeking an Assistant to the Executive Editor to provide administrative support to two editorial groups. The role reports to the Publisher, coordinating within editorial imprints, across departments in the division, as well as outside of house with agents, authors, and illustrators. The assistant will be comfortable juggling a varied workload and deadlines, while remaining calm and attentive to detail.

The ideal candidate is organized, highly motivated, and comfortable asking for help when needed. Every day, they liaise with a variety of people, fielding queries that must be responded to in a courteous and timely manner.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to multiple areas of the publishing process, including editorial.

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to the Publisher and editorial team. 

• Act as the liaison with other departments (art, marketing, publicity, sales, etc.) and communicate key information to the editors in the group. 

• Daily tasks include calendar management, meeting prep and note-taking, working across a variety of proprietary online systems, grid and file maintenance, and drafting and sending imprint communications.  

• Assist with author, illustrator, and agent management by drafting communications, and interacting directly with our creative partners.

• Generate and process expense reports, invoices, contract requests, book orders, library of congress data, and other business tasks, including assisting with P&L’s, all with training.

• Participate in brainstorm meetings and other creative department efforts, including reading and evaluating potential projects, researching trends and competition, and pulling sales data.

• Write title information sheets, book summaries, metadata, cover copy, and other creative editorial copy. Create Powerpoint slides and assist with title launch presentations.

Requirements

5+ years experience in commercial trade book publishing. Familiarity with QuickBooks a plus.
